NI Photowalk - Lounges Sur Mer Battery

The Battery at Longues Sur Mer was part of Hitler's Atlantic Wall, the defenses that the Germans were putting in place because they knew that the invasion was coming.  Longues Sur Mer contained four long range guns capable of reaching Omaha and Gold Beaches.

The casements are placed quite a distance away from the cliffs and the ocean below.

A forward bunker would site the enemy and call the coordinates back to the artillery.

The mulberry harbors at Arromanches can be seen in the water at the base of the cliff.

Several other structures are visible at the site, including machine gun placements and ammunition storehouses.

While the initial bombing raids did not stop the guns, the battery surrendered on June 7.
